So if you missed the dust up over the past couple weeks regarding the “Hillary Clinton email scandal” Please stop reading this and return to the cave your living in. I won’t bother rehashing the whole stupidity of the scandal or the reply provided by the by the interested parties. Suffice it to say it was completely avoidable and everybody deserves whatever comes of it.
With that said what if anything will anybody do to ensure it doesn’t happen again. With politicians and pundits alike wringing their hands over ability to comply with FOIA requests and proper congressional oversight of federal agencies how can we possibly insure the integrity of public records? This is going to take a couple years of fact finding committees, four or five conferences in a sunny location, and the inclusion of the top academics in the country to sort it out. Of course the FCC will have to weigh in on the impact on the internet as well as the EPA just in case some kind of environmental impact due to all the required travel. When all the facts are in congress will have to put budget talks on hold to forge the couple thousand page bill to solve the problem………..OR
Congress can pass bills thousands of pages long to regulate everything from health insurance to rain water. I suggest this.
The 2015 document preservation and transparency act
(1)All federal government employees and elected officials that routinely use email to conduct government business shall be issued a .gov email address
(2) All federal government employees and elected officials with a government email address must use their government email address for ALL government business.
(3) Failure to do so will result in immediate dismissal and forfeiture of any and all benefits and pensions. Status or position not withstanding.
Corporate America has no problem sorting out business email from personal. Why the heck should it be a problem for government. The fact of the matter is that until this came up I would have assumed a law such as this was in place. Can anyone give a credible reason why it wouldn’t be? I hear a lot about the problem. Why hasn’t anybody come up with a solution?
