Although not a big fan of Glenn Beck I was fortunate enough to hear an interview he aired with Libertarian party presidential candidate Austin Petersen. As a conservative with libertarian leaning Mr. Petersen touched just about every right button and for the right reasons even admitting that although his philosophy is purely libertarian he recognizes that law and constitution come first. That means accepting some conservative principals that don’t always align with libertarian as well as rejecting some.
Mr. Petersen may be the pragmatic pro life libertarian that conservatives can get behind given the two other party’s are giving us no choice at all. We wish him luck in the upcoming Libertarian convention.
The Libertarian Party needs a new face to breath life into it. I urge everyone both libertarian and conservative to listen to this interview.
Petersen at a glance:
Austin Petersen is a constitutional libertarian, who believes in economic freedom and personal liberty. Petersen’s passion for limited government led him to a job at the Libertarian National Committee in 2008, and then eventually to the Atlas Economic Research Foundation. After fighting for liberty in our nation’s capital, Petersen took a job as an associate producer for Judge Andrew Napolitano’s show FreedomWatch on the Fox Business Network. After the show’s cancellation, Austin returned to D.C. to work for the Tea Party institution FreedomWorks, and subsequently started his own business venture, Stonegait LLC, and a popular national news magazine The Libertarian Republic.
Ron Paul and Gary Johnson have run their course without gaining enough traction to put the Libertarian Party on the electoral map. This may be the time to invite conservatives into the party with a crossover candidate like Mr. Petersen. It’s obvious the republicans don’t want conservatives any more and there’s no seat at the democrat table at all.
